Bad Homburg - A visit to the Opel Zoo

After our busy day in Frankfurt yesterday, we decided to have a quieter day at the local zoo. Once again we drove in 2 cars (Benedetta is an expert in finding short-cuts) and joined a large number of local families at the Opel Zoo.
Madeleine and Daniel were surprised to find that you could feed the animals here and you could feed them a lot... as long as they liked carrots.

Madeleine thought the baby goats were very cute.

The goats and ponies were rather hungry but we needed to keep a store of carrots for the larger animals later on.
After visiting the elephants and camels we found an amazing playground with a flying-fox, climbing frames, a spinning seesaw and speed racing cars......

We then went on a camel ride. Luckily we were able to climb aboard the camel using steps and a raised platform rather than the usual scarier way which involves the camel standing up and the riders trying not to fall off.... This was a lovely, sedate stroll.

The rest of the zoo contained a mixture of animals including monkeys, hippos, ostrich, kangaroos, giraffes, tortoises, fish, deer and even an Australian freshwater crocodile. The deer were hungry for our carrots, but we didn't feed the crocodile.

Feeding a rather large deer.

Can you see the giraffes and wildebeest?

Here is a close up view to help you....

Our day ended in routine fashion with a kick of the ball in the backyard after playing in Alice's room, an Italian meal and then the short walk back to the hotel.... another great day in Germany.

  1. It looks like you had a lot of fun at the Zoo. On tonight's news we saw a video of Camel races that were held in Alice Springs today. Their riders certainly weren't having a sedate stroll through the park! You look like you were really driving fast in those racing cars. It must have been a very exciting day. Lots of love, Nanna and Pop
