Madeleine and Daniel visit Fontainebleau

 Another day, another palace.
After an exciting weekend in the parks and streets of Paris we decided to take a train to visit the Palace of Fontainebleau (We think it is pronounced "Fontanblur"). Alicia's parents, Noel and Johan invited us out to visit them as their village is very close to the chateau.

We were a bit concerned by the heavy rain that fell whilst we were on the train however when we reached the village of Avon-Fontainebleau the sun appeared and stayed around for the rest of the day.

The palace was beautiful and each room had a different decoration. We had our very own audioguide that was not for grown-ups. Luckily Mum and Dad had their own to guide them through the palace. We learnt about the kings of France and even about Napoleon. He lived in the palace for 10 years (1804-1814).

This is Napoleon.
This chair is designed to keep the cold out on one side and let the warmth of the fire in the other side.

Where's Madeleine?
Madeleine is really hard to find in this photo.

Can you see her?

Madeleine is here somewhere.

Daniel found her.... can you see them?

And now?

Dad found them both
We had lunch in the gardens and then waited at the gates for Johan to pick us up for the short journey to their beautiful cottage.

Noel and Johan hosted us for afternoon tea and taught us all to play Petanque. We then went for a walk in the forest to visit the Ice-Age rocks. Madeleine and Daniel climbed nearly all of the big rocks. When we returned from the walk Madeleine and Daniel cooled down in the pool. Dad and Johan played the 2 pianos at the same time!

Petanque - What great fun. Can anyone see Madeleine and Daniel's boules?

Quite a games room!

  1. You've had another exciting day. Fontainebleau must have been interesting to explore. We liked the design of the fireside chair. Noel and Johan's games room looked very interesting and it was great that the sun stayed out long enough for you to have a dip in the pool. We would have enjoyed hearing your dad and Johan playing on the two pianos. Did you play for Johan? The Ice Age elephant-shaped rock is amazing. We are all enjoying seeing your photos and reading about your adventures.Lots of love Nanna and Pop and Grace x x x
